Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will reportedly not be making their awards show debut as a married couple at the 2026 VMAs on September 27.

Kelce will reportedly miss the event because of a prior commitment with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Swift received nine nominations, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, and Best Pop.

Your favorite English teacher and gym teacher’s first VMAs as a married couple will have to wait until another year. Apparently, the newlyweds Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce won’t be making a joint appearance at the VMAs 2026 on September 27, where Swift will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors and become the most awarded artist in VMAs history.

Although Swift is expected to attend the ceremony, according to People, the NFL player won’t be able to make it to the show, as he’ll be tied up with the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Miami Dolphins at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. He was seen arriving in the city ahead of the game in a green suit and flashing his gold wedding band.

It will be a big evening for Swift, as she is up for a whopping nine nominations, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Choreography, and Best Visual Effects. She will also receive the first-ever MTV Artist Director award, which recognizes “artists whose directorial work has advanced the art of music video and storytelling,” per MTV. To top it all off, she is also expected to debut her music video for her new song “Patient Zero” at the ceremony.

The news comes nearly three months after they tied the knot in a lavish, star-studded wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The pair exchanged emotional vows in front of 1,000 guests, with Swift walking down the aisle in a Dior Haute Couture gown, Cartier jewelry, and custom Christian Louboutin shoes. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end also wore Dior, breaking tradition in a white tuxedo. The couple have yet to share photos from their nuptials.

Swift and Kelce’s first awards show appearance was in March, when they attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards in L.A. The then-engaged couple looked so smitten and impeccably dressed, with the singer stunning in a mint green Wiederhoeft ensemble and the athlete in black separates with a brown leather jacket.
