- The *Marty Supreme *star called him "so progressive," adding that "he has such a sweet heart and he wants to, like, make sure everybody's looked after."

Gwyneth Paltrow is getting candid about where she and Brad Falchuk stand politically.

After her husband misunderstood what party she aligned with, the *Marty Supreme* actress got candid about her political stance in a June 2 episode of her *Goop* podcast.

She and guest Trae Stephens, the co-founder of AI defense company Anduril, spoke about whether mandatory civil service should be required in the United States. When Paltrow said that people can get "so charged” in discussing defense within the country, Stephens noted that “open respectful dialogue" is key for solving "any of these problems that we're seeing in the country."

Paltrow agreed. “I noticed with my own husband, too, who's the best person ever in the world. And he's so progressive. He has such a sweet heart and he wants to, like, make sure everybody's looked after," she said of the *Glee* co-coreator, noting that hearing another viewpoint can be "very triggering."

“It's become so binary, I think. And I am trying to, in my journey through being an American right now, trying to, I don't know, I guess sort of weave together lots of different points of view, and also to get out of that place of righteousness and anger and fear."

"And I mean, I'm pretty centrist and my husband thinks I'm a Republican. But I think it's — which I'm not a Republican,” continued Paltrow. “I don't feel anything right now, to be totally honest with you. I feel like I'm completely an independent.”

Paltrow gave an example of someone speaking out during their set at a Bluegrass festival in Nashville who had “completely different points of view than my husband." Despite this, she said it was "so beautiful to see somebody who clearly is such a good person coming from such a different place." "Isn't that more valuable to understand?"

Stephens added, "We don't really gain anything from shutting people out and not hearing what they have to say."

Paltrow has leaned on the Democratic party in the past. Per *TIME*, she told former President Barack Obama that she was “one of your biggest fans, if not the biggest," while hosting a Democratic National Committee fundraiser at her Los Angeles home in 2014. The outlet also reported that the *Shakespeare In Love *actress said of Obama: "You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly."

She also hosted a fundraising dinner for Pete Buttigieg in 2019.

Years later, in 2023, the Oscar winner told *The New York Times** *in a profile that she was "open-minded about everybody." She referred to a podcast featuring Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who at the time was running for president in the Independent party, adding, "It was very interesting to hear his point of view." RFK Jr. is now the secretary of health and human services.

Most recently, in December 2025, Paltrow shouted out Falchuck, to whom she's been married since 2018, during her acceptance speech for the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at *The Hollywood Reporter*’s Women in Entertainment gala.

"Before I go, I just want to say a good thank you to my manager, my husband, Brad Falchuk, who's the most feminist man I know, the most loving, who lets me be with myself every day," she said.
