President Donald Trump said he feels “so bad” after learning that Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover SUV crash in Jupiter Island, Fla., on Friday, March 27.
“I feel so badly,” Trump, 79, told reporters. “He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident and that’s all I know.”
The president referred to the golf legend as a “very close friend of mine” and an “amazing person."
"Amazing man," Trump said, adding, "But some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.”
Trump made the comments before news about Woods’ DUI was announced by local authorities.
Woods, 50, was involved in a rollover crash in Jupiter Island at around 2 p.m. Friday, on South Beach Road, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said in a press conference Friday afternoon. Woods was charged with DUI with property damage. He was uninjured and placed under arrest, then taken to the Martin County Jail.
Budensiek alleged that Woods appeared “lethargic” and “did exemplify signs of impairment.” However, the sheriff said Woods did not consume alcohol. The golfer allegedly refused a urinalysis and authorities believe he was "not impaired by alcohol but possibly by medication or another substance."

Woods, who underwent his seventh back surgery last fall, “did explain the injuries and surgeries that he had, and we took that into account,” Budensiek said.

Woods and Trump have been friends for decades. In May 2019, during Trump’s first term in office, he presented Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
“He’s the President of the United States,” Woods told reporters in 2018 when asked about their friendship. “You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

Woods was also seen at the White House on multiple occasions last year, including a celebration for Black History Month in February 2025 and in May 2025.
