Travis Kelce won't be in attendance to see his new wife Taylor Swift accept an award tonight, though he has a good reason.
The Kansas City Chiefs opened their road schedule against the Miami Dolphins at 1 p.m. EDT at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Sunday. The MTV Video Music Awards are set to air live hours later from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, starting at 7:30 p.m. EDT on CBS, with Swift slated to receive a first-of-its-kind honor.
Swift, 36, did not appear to be in the stands to watch Kelce, 36, in Miami. She typically does not say in advance which games she will attend, but her absence fit a clear pattern: she did not go to a single Chiefs road game during the 2025 season. This comes as Swift released a new music video with tons of Easter eggs.

The reason has never been confirmed, though a source previously told Page Six, "She's not going anywhere unless she knows the venue intimately and it has been thoroughly scouted and secured in advance."
Swift had not publicly confirmed plans to attend the VMAs, though PageSix reports she will attend. Either way, she is expected to loom large over the broadcast. MTV is presenting her with its inaugural Artist Director Honors, an award the network says recognizes "groundbreaking music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling."

She is also up for 11 other awards, including artist of the year, video of the year for The Fate of Ophelia, album of the year for The Life of a Showgirl and song of the summer for I Knew It, I Knew You.

The show was also set to host the full premiere of the video for Patient Zero, which stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. The song is one of four new tracks, along with Cleveland!, Pink Clouding and Babylon, on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, a deluxe edition of her latest studio album released Friday.
Swift has said the song grew out of a conversation among friends.
"The story behind me writing the song 'Patient Zero' is that I was hanging out with a bunch of friends, and one of my friends told us that she had been reached out to by the new girlfriend of an ex of hers, asking for guidance on if she had had the same experiences with this guy," she explained.

The Chiefs remain on the road next week, when they visit the Las Vegas Raiders on October 4.
