A former Australian rules footballer has shared that his partner, Hannah, died two days after their daughter Sofia was born

Mark Hutchings, 35, said he was “shattered” and thanked friends and followers for their support in an Instagram post

An Australian rules football star has shared that his partner died just two days after the birth of their daughter.

Mark Hutchings, who is now retired and works in real estate, revealed the news in an Instagram post on Thursday, Sept. 24.

“It is with deep sadness that I share the sudden loss of my beautiful partner, Hannah, 2 days following the birth of our daughter, Sofia,” Hutchings, 35, wrote, alongside a photo of the couple embracing on a beach.

“I am shattered,” he continued. “Her dream was to become a Mom, so it’s been incredibly difficult to take.”

The native of Perth, Western Australia thanked friends and followers for their support, before finishing, “Sofia and I love you and will miss you very much Hannah.”

Hutchings spent almost his entire career with the Australian rules football team the West Coast Eagles, with whom he won the Australian Football League in 2018. Many of his former teammates left comments of support on his post.

“You’ll be the best Dad for your beautiful daughter, we got you,” Nic Naitanui wrote, while Mark LeCras said, “Thinking of you mate. Sending all our love your way.”

Jack Darling wrote, “Love you Hutchy, always here for you,” while his wife, Courtney, added, “Been thinking of you every day Hutch, no words will ever be enough. Praying for you and your beautiful Sofia.”

Hutchings did not say when Hannah died or provide any further details about her death.

According to 7NEWS, the couple is believed to have been together since 2022. In recent years, Hannah has been a fixture on her partner’s Instagram, with Hutchings uploading snaps of them together at public events and traveling to Vietnam, France and Italy.
