One year after a painful mental health crisis thrust her family into the spotlight, *Real World* alum Kelley Wolf has issued a public apology for “all of the chaos.”

In a lengthy Aug. 28 Instagram post, the reality star profusely apologized to her estranged husband Scott Wolf. Kelley explained that she has since been diagnosed with “breakthrough drug-induced mania with psychosis,” which she attributed to “a perfect storm” combination of stress, past trauma, hormonal shifts, hallucinogens and prescribed medication.

“It’s been a year since I recognized what everyone around me could see: I was not well, and I needed help,” Kelley wrote. “I felt like my brain had been hijacked, and the world was moving at the speed of a freight train.”

Last year, Kelley’s erratic behavior led to a months-long public ordeal in which she was placed on an involuntary “5150” psychiatric hold and later arrested for alleged online harassment.

“I am so sorry,” she said of that period. “My husband of twenty years was taken through a nightmare that wouldn’t even fly in a movie script; it was so brutal. The things I said, wrote, and posted caused profound harm and were not based in truth and reality.”

Beneath the apology, Scott offered a subtle show of support, commenting five heart emojis.

Her post was also met with support from fans and other stars, including Rosie O’Donnell, who wrote, “I have so much respect for ur handling of this horrible time u and ur family went thru publicly - and thrilled u have found peace - sending so much love to u all.”

Former *Bachelorette* Trista Sutter praised Kelley for sharing “such powerful and thoughtful and important words.” Sutter added, “Thank you for your vulnerability. There is healing in that, as you know so well. Love you.”

Scott and Kelley announced in June 2025 that they had separated after 21 years of marriage. Initially, the reality star praised her husband as “one of the best fathers I’ve ever known and one of the best partners a woman could have the privilege of sharing life with.”

Scott Wolf drops restraining order against estranged wife Kelley Wolf amid her ongoing psychiatric hold

A few days later, Kelley posted a video of herself being detained by law enforcement officers and revealed that she was placed under an involuntary 5150 hold. Scott was subsequently granted temporary sole physical and legal custody of the couple’s three children and was also given a temporary restraining order against Kelley (which was lifted on July 19).

The following weeks saw her social media presence grow more erratic, with Kelley posting frequent and concerning messages, some of which saw her share the phone numbers of various close contacts, including her own children. In August, she was arrested and charged with “alleged online harassment and doxxing of friends and family members.”

Scott broke his silence on the tumultuous split that same month, telling PEOPLE that he was compelled to do so after Kelley allegedly made “deeply disturbing and entirely false allegations” against him. Scott reiterated that the claims “are completely baseless and incredibly dangerous,” calling them “traumatic for our children.”

In her Friday post, Kelley continued, “My brain turned on me. In my illness, I made accusations and did things that made me shudder… I have spent my life believing in love, hope kindness, and compassion. What I became was the opposite. Cruel. Vicious. Mean.”

Though she noted that she will “never be the same” after causing her family such “enormous pain,” Kelley indicated that her healing journey is in progress.

“[To] Scott and my kids, there won’t be a day that I don’t thank God for you. Causing you pain and being the reason you suffered will haunt me for the rest of my life,” she wrote. “It was my job to protect you, honor you and keep you safe, and I became the cause of your heartbreak. I am sorry. You never gave up on me, and you fought like hell until you landed me in safe harbor. I owe you my life.”

In the caption of her post, Kelley added, “Sometimes words fall short… but love never does.

Thank you for all the love, grace, and encouragement you have shown me and our family. My gratitude is immeasurable.”

In March, Scott shared that Kelley had recently enjoyed a “healing” family reunion with their three children — Jackson, 17, Miller, 13, and daughter Lucy, 12.

“While I would never have wanted anything to have been made public, I guess it just felt like our family deserved to have things not just sit in some kind of awful dark place in terms of perception,” Scott told PEOPLE. “While it’s impossible to go into any real detail about much of any of it, I love all of those four people and all of those four people love each other. And so that’s really what matters most.”
