Prince William is reportedly taking steps to strengthen his position as the future king while continuing to shape his public role. According to a new report, one key move could also influence the ongoing dynamic involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The reported Prince William weapon isn’t a person, but rather an expanded communications team. Sources say the team was assembled to help the Prince of Wales navigate future challenges as heir to the throne.

According to The i Paper, William has been quietly strengthening his public relations operation with experienced communications professionals. Anne McElvoy, executive editor at Politico and co-host of Politics at Sam and Anne’s, discussed the recent appointments. She said the hires reflect preparations for the increasing responsibilities that come with his future role as monarch.

Among the reported hires is crisis communications expert Liza Ravenscroft, who previously worked at Edelman. McElvoy said the addition recognizes that unexpected royal controversies, including those involving Prince Andrew, require expertise beyond traditional palace structures. William brought in Lieutenant Colonel Tom White, who previously worked with Queen Elizabeth II, as Princess Kate’s private secretary. He also hired communications strategist Lee Thompson to help strengthen the Waleses’ long-term international profile.

McElvoy claimed that Harry and Meghan have continued working with their existing U.S.-based communications team. The couple originally hired this strategy team after stepping back from royal duties. According to her, that approach has left the couple “under-armed” in managing public relations challenges compared to the evolving strategy at Kensington Palace.

The report alleged that Harry considered returning to areas around the Sandringham estate to reconnect with his British charitable work. However, those plans reportedly did not move forward. It further claimed that the Sussexes’ communications team received advance notice of a recent Buckingham Palace letter only shortly before its public release.

Neither Kensington Palace nor representatives for the Sussexes have publicly commented on the claims regarding their communications strategies. They have also remained silent on the reported differences in their overall approach.
