Prince William traveled to Cornwall to help out a local soccer club
The Prince of Wales heard that players had trouble getting to the field, and a new road was built to improve the community's access
William is a huge soccer fan and recently played with local youth and a star athlete during his trip to Brazil
Members of the royal family are accustomed to planting trees, cutting ribbons and unveiling plaques, but Prince William had a different duty during his latest outing.
The Prince of Wales, 43, spent Thursday, Nov. 13, celebrating the building of a road that means a local soccer club could easily reach its field.
William came to the rescue of Mousehole Association Football Club (AFC) in Cornwall, southwest England, after hearing that players and staff had to navigate a narrow, pothole-cratered road to get to their games.
The soccer-obsessed royal — who played with youngsters and Brazilian superstar Cafu during his visit to Rio on Nov. 3 — brought together a consortium of businesses to help create a better route to the field, thereby bringing clearer and long-term access for the community to a space for sport and recreation.

The group of companies has now completed the road, giving greater benefit to the soccer team and the wider community, fulfilling opportunities for sport and local events — and reducing congestion around the local village as vehicles no longer get backed up due to the hole-ridden, difficult terrain of the access road.
William traveled to the area around the village of Paul to open the road and spend time with the club and the businesses that had pitched in to carry out the work.
Construction work to build the new road was carried out at no cost to the club over the summer. Prince William's office at Kensington Palace said it was completed "thanks to generous in-kind contributions from a consortium of partner businesses."

As well as vastly improved access, the completed project provides new parking facilities, which will enable the club to expand on what it can provide for other sports, as well as social and cultural events for the wider community.
William is a deeply committed soccer fan, even taking his son Prince George to games of their favorite English Premier League team, Aston Villa, and to England internationals. During his trip to Brazil, he took part in some soccer drills with kids in the famous Maracana stadium, supporting an initiative that helps to foster a greater understanding of the environment through the game.
In April, he spoke about how he wanted to pass on to his children the joy of watching sports as they create memories of their own as a family.

"I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition," William told TNT Sports, referring to Aston Villa's first European quarterfinal in that time. "I hope it's not 43 years until the next time it happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and to bring him along tonight is a big deal for me."
The Prince of Wales has shared how all three of his children play a role in his superstitions about the club. "If we’re not doing very well, I start moving round the house quite quickly and I put the children in different positions hoping that’s going to change our luck,” he told The Sun in an interview published on March 14.
