Prince William remained diplomatic when asked about "a lot of change in your family recently" during his visit to Brazil

He used the question as a chance to talk about his Earthshot Prize project

Prince William turned a question about recent "change" in his family into a chance to talk about his passion project.

The Prince of Wales, 43, sat down with veteran journalist Christiane Amanpour of CNN at The Earthshot Prize Impact Assembly on Nov. 5 amid his weeklong trip to Brazil. After starting off with questions about the environmental focus of the environmental project, Amanpour brought up William's recent candid chat on Eugene Levy's Apple TV series The Reluctant Traveler.

She pinpointed a quote from the future king in which he addressed his plans for his eventual accession to the throne: "I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good. And I embrace that and I enjoy that change — I don’t fear it," William said at the time.

Amanpour asked him to expand on that, "given there has been a lot of change in your family recently."

While some interpreted the question as a reference to his uncle, the former Prince Andrew, being stripped of his titles or his estranged brother, Prince Harry, Prince William took the diplomatic route.

He answered, "I think the Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we're doing it. That's where I want it to be, is that, these people in here are the true, actual heroes of our time. Change will come by backing them, not by what I do."

"I want to surround myself with people who want to make change and do good in the world," he added.

Amanpour pivoted back to the Reluctant Traveler, asking, "Is that what you meant when you told Eugene that you want your son to be proud of that kind of change?"

"Yeah, I think it's really important," William said. "Again, you have to provide leadership and a vision that there’s good things to come and that it’s not all negative. And for my children, particularly, knowing the planet’s going to be in a healthier, better state because of the brilliant people in this room is something that I love to tell them when they go to bed."

During Prince William's trip to Brazil, news about both Andrew and Prince Harry made headlines.

On William's first day in Brazil, Harry announced a series of engagements in Canada connected to Remembrance Day, the British equivalent of Veterans Day in the U.S. He met with members of Canada's Reserve Forces and spoke at a banquet dinner for the True Patriot Love Foundation.

Meanwhile, the fallout continued for Andrew as King Charles issued a Letters Patent, a legal document, expressing the will of the monarch to strip Andrew of his royal titles, making the move official.
