Quick Read -
SNPS has dropped 34% over the past year despite 42% revenue growth and completing the $35 billion Ansys acquisition.
Reaching $650 by February 2028 requires FY2027 EPS near $18, Ansys margin synergies accelerating, and export-control risks stabilizing.

Synopsys (NASDAQ:SNPS | SNPS Price Prediction) sits at the center of the AI silicon buildout, yet its stock has behaved like a value trap. The EDA leader posted 42% revenue growth last quarter, integrated a $35 billion Ansys deal, and raised full-year guidance.

Shares still trade at $412.32, down 34.11% over the past year. CEO Sassine Ghazi calls this "the most compelling roadmap in our history."
Can Synopsys really climb to $650 by 2028?

SNPS Price Target — 24/7 Wall St.Why Synopsys Shares Are Stuck Despite Blowout Numbers
SNPS is down 12.22% year to date and off 4.96% over the past month, even after a 2.87% weekly bounce.
Three headwinds: The Ansys deal pushed long-term debt to $10 billion and drove $403.6 million in quarterly intangibles amortization, compressing GAAP profits. U.S. export controls continue to haunt the semiconductor customer base.
The Design IP segment underperformed and management is divesting Processor IP Solutions. With a beta of 1.213, the stock swings hard on macro wobbles. The market refuses to underwrite this business until integration risk fades.
Wall Street Sees 37% Upside. Our Model Sees Less
The consensus price target sits at $564.43, backed by 3 Strong Buys, 13 Buys, 6 Holds, and only one bearish call, a 70% bullish tilt. Our model is more measured, pegging the one-year base case at $493.93 with 19.79% upside, a bull case of $629.54, and a bear case of $444.57. Confidence is high at 90%.
Analysts are directionally right but slow. Earnings growth is currently a drag (-0.96% YoY), yet that reflects Ansys accounting distortion, not underlying demand. Once amortization normalizes, consensus estimates likely move higher.

The Path to $650 Per Share
Reaching $650 from today's price of $412.32 would require a gain of 57.6%. With forward EPS of $14.86, a price of $650 implies a forward P/E of 44x. Our base case of $493.93 already implies 31x, meaning the bold target requires 13x of additional multiple expansion.

That is a stretch, but not unreasonable given the 247Factor adjustment of 1.151, driven by a 1.15 technology sector multiplier and 70% analyst bullishness.
FY2026 EPS guidance was raised to a $14.76 midpoint, revenue guidance to $9.665 billion, and free cash flow to $2 billion. Design Automation adjusted operating margin expanded to 43.3% from 40.9%.
Ghazi has been explicit: "AI is scaling semiconductor demand, architectural diversity and complexity of chips and the systems they power, driving demand across our portfolio."
If FY2027 EPS lands closer to $18, a $650 stock would trade at roughly 36x forward, a defensible multiple for a mission-critical software monopoly. The primary risk remains further export-control escalation that could clip customer semiconductor budgets.
Where Synopsys Trades Today vs Its Earnings Power
At $412.32, SNPS trades at roughly 28x forward earnings, a meaningful discount to where premium EDA franchises historically clear when growth reaccelerates.
Shares sit 10% below the 52-week high of $626.24 and well off the low of $366. Long-term shareholders have compounded well: SNPS is up 639.72% over ten years. The current setup rhymes with prior digestion phases where multiple compression preceded the next leg higher.
Is $650 Realistic?
Reaching $650 requires the 57.6% gain we calculated, and our model has the bull case tagging $656.42 on February 13, 2028. That path is realistic but not guaranteed.
Three things need to break right: FY2027 EPS needs to grow into the high teens, Ansys synergies need to accelerate margin expansion, and export-control noise needs to stabilize. A sharper China chip crackdown would derail it fastest. We've outlined the blueprint for how Synopsys could reach $650 in 2028.
