The spotlight is on former Prince Andrew again as police in Scotland have said they are looking into his time at Balmoral with Jeffrey Epstein. Inquiries are said to be at an early stage but Police Scotland released a statement to media confirming they are active and ongoing.

ā€œWe have received information and active inquiries are ongoing but these are at a very early stage,ā€ a Police Scotland spokesperson said, per the BBC. ā€œAll inquiries are evidence led, with the needs of victim survivors at the heart of those inquiries. We would never confirm details of ongoing enquiries and it would be inappropriate to comment further.ā€

The news first came to light through a story in the Daily Express newspaper. Labelled world exclusive, the piece said that Police are probing the activities of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell during their time at Balmoral, understood to be related to claims that women were ā€œtraffickedā€ there. The piece then cited an appeal for information that was made by Police Scotland in February this year following the release of the Epstein Files. That appeal related to Epstein’s use of Edinburgh airport.

A photograph of Epstein and Maxwell at a cabin on the Balmoral Estate, thought to have been taken in 1999, was shown at her New York trial. The picture of the duo at the heart of this royal retreat is just one of the many damaging images for former Prince Andrew, and indeed the monarchy, when it comes to the Epstein scandal.

Andrew stepped back from public duties in 2019 and was stripped of all his titles, including Prince, in 2025. He was arrested in February this year by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The former Prince scored a legal win earlier this year when the High Court quashed legal warrants relating to his arrest. However, Thames Valley Police emphasized that their investigation continues.

Andrew lives in Norfolk on the King’s Sandringham Estate after leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor earlier this year. Buckingham Palace no longer speaks for him. He has always denied any allegations.
