Matthew Lillard's wife scoled him for calling Jacob Elordi "delicious" in public

"My wife's like, ‘You can't say that. You're married to me for 26 years,' " the actor told PEOPLE

Matthew Lillard is joining in on the Jacob Elordi fanfare — but not without a reaction from his wife.

Speaking with Danny Pellegrino during PEOPLE's exclusive coverage of the Elton John AIDS Foundation's 34th Academy Awards Viewing Party on March 15, the actor, 56, was asked who he would pick for PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2026.

“So, Jacob Elordi is, like …" he began, as Pellegrino jumped in, “Sculpture.”

Agreeing with the Everything Iconic podcast host, Lillard confessed, however, that he was unable to say too much more about his affection for the Oscar nominee.

“I'm not allowed to say [anything] anymore," the Scream 7 star said. "I was calling him delicious in public, and my wife's like, ‘You can't say that. You're married to me for 26 years.’ ”

"But Jacob Elordi's legit a really handsome man," Lillard. added.

Lillard is married to Heather Helm. The pair, who wed in August 2000, share three kids: daughters Addison, 23, and Macey, 21, plus son Liam, 17.

Speaking with PEOPLE in February about his long-lasting relationship and family life, the Scooby-Doo star said one thing that keeps his marriage strong is not going to bed angry.

"I mean, we've been married 25 years, which is over a hundred years in Hollywood,” Lillard joked.

He also admitted that he and his wife don't “really have rules," but the couple, as well as their kids, navigate arguments in their family by "clear[ing] space."

"So when you are fighting, or when you have those moments where you're bickering, you find the end of it in clear space — which is an apology a lot of times, taking responsibility for how you behaved," Lillard explained.

“And I do think that it makes us both accountable to what is said in the moment and letting it go,” he continued.

The actor added that the exercise also allows his loved ones to get to the root of the issue faster.

"It's never about cleaning the kitchen, it's about something else. So it's about working through that, to find out what is at the core," he told PEOPLE.
