An arrest affidavit said Hernandez's victim was her partner of eight years
The longtime partner of Gloria Estefan’s daughter Emily was arrested on domestic violence charges in Miami following a fight over possession of a cellphone.
Gemeny Hernandez, who has been dating Emily, a singer, since 2016, was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and charged with felony strong-arm robbery and misdemeanor battery, according to an arrest affidavit from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Department obtained by PEOPLE. TMZ was first to report the news.
The affidavit did not name Hernandez’s victim, but said that she and the victim “are domestic partners for approximately 8 years and reside together.” On the website for their podcast In Our Own World, Hernandez, 31, and Emily, 30, say that they have been in a “dedicated partnership” since 2016.
A rep for Estefan had no comment. Hernandez did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
The affidavit said that per a sworn statement given by the victim, Hernandez “forcefully took her cellphone from her hand and struck the victim with the cellphone.” A “struggle ensued,” and the victim was able to grab the phone and put it in her pocket, at which point Hernandez allegedly grabbed it again.

“The parties fell onto the floor as the struggle for the cellphone continued,” the affidavit said. “Once again, the victim was able to regain possession of her cellphone and conceal it under her body. Once the parties separated from each other, the victim called 911 to report the incident.”
The affidavit said that the victim suffered minor injuries, including a bruise on her left eye and scratches on the right side of her neck. During a formal interview, Hernandez denied taking the cellphone, “but admitted to her involvement in the physical altercation.”
She was then arrested, and records indicate she has submitted a $3,000 bond.
Emily and Hernandez frequently attend red carpet events together, and often post about one another on Instagram. In February, Hernandez and Emily attended a red carpet event for the Con Cora Foundation, and posed with Emily’s mom Gloria, 68, and dad Emilio, 72.
They launched their podcast together in 2022, and in Emily’s bio, she wrote that she “shares a profound partnership with her loving partner, Gemeny, both in life and business since 2016.”
“Love is growing up. Love is watching the pigment in your hair fade, the wrinkles on your face form, the softness in your voice amplify. Almost 8 years beautiful. Te Amo 🌹,” Hernandez wrote in a November 2024 Instagram post featuring photos of her and Emily.
