Lin-Manuel Miranda threw away his shot to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The *Hamilton* star revealed that he was offered a supervillain role in 2017âs *Spider-Man: Homecoming* but ultimately declined the part during an interview with Josh Horowitz on the *Happy Sad Confused* podcast.
âIt was Vulture,â Miranda explained, in reference to Adrian Toomes, the arms dealer portrayed by Michael Keaton in the film. âI would have been so miscast.â

Miranda said that he considered joining the cast of the Jon Wattsâdirected superhero movie after an offer from Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige, but he ultimately declined the opportunity due to exhaustion from his extensive time working on *Hamilton* on Broadway.
âI said, âWhen does it shoot?ââ he recalled. âAnd [Feige] goes, âBasically the moment you step off-stage in *Hamilton*.â And I went, âWell, I love these movies, but I would really like to stay married. So I cannot do this.ââ
Miranda said that he still cannot imagine himself playing the role. âMichael Keaton was perfect. They found exactly who they needed,â he said. âI have no regrets. I needed a vacation so badly. And I think I wouldâve been deeply miscast in it.â
The *In the Heights* creator also said that he had an enthusiastic reaction to one of *Homecoming*âs biggest twists: the reveal that the Vulture is the father of Liz (Laura Harrier), the primary love interest and homecoming date of Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

âKevin Feige told me the entire plot over the phone. And I was like, âOhh!â And they get to the door and itâs her dad, and I went, âOhhh!â on the phone,â he remembered. âKevin does say, âWhen I told you that over the phone, thatâs when I knew the movie was gonna work, because of your reaction.â So thatâs my little footnote in history, was me going, âOhhh!ââ

Miranda also explained his relationship with superhero comics during his conversation with Horowitz.
âI canât claim to be like the completist,â he said. âIâm like a basic, like I have the four *Death of Superman* comics, you know what I mean? That was a big deal. I was a big Spider-Man fan. Any New York-centered superhero, I was very into.â

Miranda eventually converted *Hamilton*âs success into a supporting role in a different big-budget franchise movie: *Mary Poppins Returns*, which released nearly 18 months after *Homecoming* and thus giving the multihyphenate entertainer more time between projects. Since then, heâs penned music for *Encanto*, *Vivo*, the live-action* Little Mermaid *remake, *Mufasa: The Lion King*, and the live-action *Moana* remake. Heâs also appeared in supporting roles in *In the Heights*, *Percy Jackson and the Olympians*, and *His Dark Materials*, and made his film directorial debut with *Tick, Tick⊠Boom!*
Mirandaâs next Broadway show, *The Warriors*, is set to hit the stage in spring 2027.
