Jazz shoe this, opera shoe that. Kristen Stewart, meanwhile, knows where her loyalties lie when it comes to summer footwear.
While promoting her “stoner comedy” The Wrong Girls this week, the actress has remained faithful to a familiar and famously versatile shoe: the Adidas Samba. Practical kicks have always been a staple of Stewart’s wardrobe—remember when she broke the Cannes Film Festival high-heel dress code in 2018 by going barefoot?—but her Samba streak comes at a time when fashion seems determined to find the sneaker’s successor.

Stewart’s go-to Samba is a highlighter-bright riff on the classic, complete with a jet-black base and neon green tri-stripes. She’s worn the eye-searing sneaker with ultra-baggy shorts, graphic tees, and even to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, pairing it with a leather Alex Perry dress.
Stewart’s Adidas obsession is vast. On Tuesday in New York City, she stepped out in a pair of Handball Spezial shoes from the maker, their low-profile shape and graphic striping mirroring that of the Samba.

As much as fashion tries to dictate the ebb and flow of trends, Stewart has always marched to the beat of her own drum when getting dressed. That independence extends to sneakers.
While Sambas once enjoyed It shoe status between 2020 and 2022, the fashion set has largely abandoned the silhouette for slimmer and stranger styles, or reserved it for more casual endeavors like running errands.
In a moment where everyone is searching for the next big shoe, Stewart seems perfectly content with the one already in her closet.
