Kelly Clarkson Takes Friendly Swipe at NBC After Ending Daytime Talk Show

Kelly Clarkson returned to the stage for her latest Las Vegas residency show on Friday (July 17) and took a moment to celebrate the positives of ending her eponymous daytime talk show at NBC.

The topic came up during the singer’s Caesars Palace Vegas show while she was stroking a fan’s sequin jacket. “I would get fired at NBC, but I don’t work there anymore,” she quipped. “Which we are sad about, it’s a fun show. But it’s funny, you go to those HR meetings, and you’re like, ‘nobody on the road would last.'”

Clarkson announced back in February that her talk show would end after this current season. In a statement, she explained how she wants to “prioritize” her children following the passing of their father, her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who died in August 2025 at 48. Final episodes are expected to broadcast in the fall.

The American Idol winner opened up further about her struggles with human resources meetings. “I was 19 on a bus with dudes, I can’t do what?” she joked, referring to how life on the road as a musician was “a different world” to hosting a show on syndicated television.

“But then they say dumb s***,” she continued. “Like, you can’t comment if someone’s lost weight, and I’m like, b***h! You better write a memo about it, a song about it. I just think that’s so dumb. It makes people feel good when you say, ‘Oh, you look really good.’ And then people are like, ‘No, because that means you thought they did look really bad.'”

Clarkson, who has spoken openly about her own weight-loss journey, said the compliment “just means it’s improved.”

“No more HR meetings!” she sang before adding, “I’m just kidding.”

She went on to say that “everyone hated doing HR meetings” with her because she would constantly ask questions. “I would literally be like, ‘I’m sorry, so your example is…?’ I would stop the class, and everyone would be like, ‘Can I do the meeting without Kelly?’ Cause it had separate meetings, and everybody would opt out of any meeting I would be in.”

“I would just get into it, because I feel like you need to get into it if we’re there to protect everyone,” Clarkson added. “Anyway, I don’t do them… I’m a curious cat, okay?”

After announcing the end of her show back in February, Clarkson said in a statement, “I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show, and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner,” the singer wrote at the time.

She added, “Because of all of that, this was not an easy decision, but this season will be my last hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show. Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.”
