Jon Hamm Says Becoming a First-Time Dad Is ‘Thrilling and Terrifying’

Hamm says he’s excited for fatherhood and has experience with kids through teaching and family
The couple married in June 2023 at the Mad Men finale filming location, joined by celebrity friends
Jon Hamm is preparing for his biggest role yet!
The Mad Men star, 55, shared his candid thoughts on becoming a parent later in life during an interview on the Today show on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Interviewer Craig Melvin asked whether Hamm had received unsolicited parenting advice since the news that he and wife Anna Osceola are expecting their first child together broke.
“Yes, a lot,” Hamm quipped.

However, the Emmy winner is looking forward to this next chapter in his life.
“The best thing I keep hearing is how much it changes you for the better, and I’m excited,” he said. “I’ve been around kids my whole life. I’ve been a teacher, my nieces and nephews and all that stuff. So it’s thrilling and terrifying.”
A source confirmed to PEOPLE last month that Hamm and Osceola, 38, were expecting. Shortly after the news broke, another source told PEOPLE that Hamm is “ready” to become a dad.

“Jon’s incredibly excited. This is something he and Anna have wanted and hoped for,” the source told PEOPLE. “He’s not thinking about his age or what anyone else has to say about it. He’s just really happy.”
“He’s happy, settled and ready for this,” they continue. “Anna’s amazing and he feels very lucky that he gets to start a family with her.”
Hamm and Osceola’s happy news comes a few years after the Your Friends & Neighbors costars tied the knot in June 2023.

The couple got married at Anderson Canyon in Big Sur that year — the same place where the Mad Men finale was filmed — where they were joined by various celebrity pals, including Billy Crudup, Paul Rudd and Tina Fey.
At the time, Hamm told The Hollywood Reporter of potentially expanding his family, “It’s not lost on me that I’m 53. I will be the old dad, but so it goes. It could be a good thing. We’ll see.”
