Jennifer Lopez’s latest Milan Fashion Week was a seriously unexpected sartorial homage. The actress and singer appeared at the Dolce & Gabbana show on September 26 wearing a look that took a little inspiration from, rather surprisingly, Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders.

Lopez wore a three-piece velvet suit with a buttoned up white shirt, a thin black tie, and knee-high black velvet boots. However, the real star of the show was her black velvet paperboy hat, which she wore completely covering her hair and showing off a pair of sparkly stud earrings.

For the uninitiated, Tommy Shelby is the main character in Netfilx’s hit mob show Peaky Blinders set in 1910s Birmingham—hence the paperboy hat!

Although paperboy hats may have been popular in 1910s America, they experienced a resurgence a hundred years later in the early 2000s, with everyone from the Olsen twins to Kate Winslet to Keira Knightley sporting the style. Now, the divisive trend is having yet another comeback. In December, Winnie Harlow was spotted in a paperboy cap. This January, Kate Middleton wore a paperboy hat for an emotional video shared on social media. Salma Hayek also wore a similar cap in June.

Lopez has been in Milan for Fashion Week for a few days. On September 23, the actress was spotted out and about in head-to-toe animal print. A day earlier, she also appeared at Vogue World: Milano wearing a dramatic black ballgown.
On September 25, the actress also took a moment to open up about becoming an empty nester on social media after her 18-year-old twins Oskar and Max left home for college. “I was thinking about routines because I’m sure a lot of people are going through this out there. My kids are going away to college,” she said as she went through her skin care routine. “I was thinking about this summer, and what a great summer it was. We got to go away together. I spent as much time with them as I could. And the travel was crazy, and it wreaks havoc on your skin. It wreaks havoc on your body. But those routines really keep you going. And I think when they go away, and I’m sitting here, being an empty nester, and crying, and thinking about them, and looking at baby pictures of them, and all that stuff, these routines are the things that are gonna keep me kind of sane.”
