Jake Paul Called Out By Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Over Bad Bunny Tweet
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Jake Paul after the boxer’s remarks about Bad Bunny ignited backlash online. Paul’s comments, which questioned the artist’s American identity and criticized his political views, quickly escalated into a broader debate.
AOC calls out Jake Paul for his tweet
The callout happened after Jake Paul took to X and labeled Bad Bunny a “fake American citizen,” while announcing he would boycott the Super Bowl LX halftime show. His post centered on the musician’s opposition to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an issue Bad Bunny has addressed publicly in recent weeks.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded directly, calling out Paul’s framing and turning the focus toward his own record. “A ‘fake American citizen?’ Didn’t you MOVE to Puerto Rico to avoid paying your taxes while kids across America go hungry?” she wrote on X. She followed up by contrasting Paul’s criticism with Bad Bunny’s charitable work. “Meanwhile Benito actually funds low income kids’ access to arts and sports programs, while you defund them. Of course you’re mad. He makes you look small.”

As the reaction mounted, Paul issued a clarification, insisting his remarks were not directed at Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rican identity. He emphasized that he currently lives in Puerto Rico and claimed his comments were tied solely to the artist’s stance on ICE. “To clarify: I wasn’t calling anyone a ‘fake citizen’ because they’re from Puerto Rico,” Paul wrote on X. “But if you’re publicly criticizing ICE, who are doing their job and openly hating on America, I’m going to speak on it. Period.”
To clarify: I wasn’t calling anyone a “fake citizen” because they’re from Puerto Rico. I live in Puerto Rico, and I love Puerto Rico. I have used my platform to support Puerto Rico time and time again and will always do so.But if you’re publicly criticizing ICE who are doing…

Paul added that he believes benefiting from the U.S. while publicly criticizing it amounts to what he described as being a “fake citizen,” concluding his post with, “I agree love is more powerful than hate. Love America.”
