Tiger Woods' friend Jack Nicklaus expressed concern for the golfer after his car crash and arrest on a DUI charge

Woods "probably needs some help," Nicklaus told The Palm Beach Post, adding, "we all want to help him"

Woods announced Tuesday that he would be "seeking treatment" following his arrest

Jack Nicklaus believes Tiger Woods "probably needs some help" after the golfer's arrest.

Nicklaus, 86, spoke to The Palm Beach Post about Woods, 50, in an interview published on Friday, April 3, telling the outlet about his knowledge of Woods' history with painkillers. Nicklaus said he believes Woods, who was found with two opioid pills in his pocket after the March 27 crash, police alleged in their arrest affidavit, wouldn't be taking painkillers "if he didn't need them."

"Sometimes you get, you know, too far down the line, and you just need somebody to help you," Nicklaus said to the Post. "I think he probably needs some help, and we all want to help him. We're all on his side."

Fellow former golfer Nick Faldo weighed in on Woods' situation as well, saying he feels Woods needs to take more accountability. "There are two sides to this right now. There's one side that's like 'well, let's care for Tiger', but then there's got to be a responsibility and accountability side as well. This is a serious issue he's done," Faldo, 68, told reporters, Sky Sports reported.

"I think something should be done a little bit more serious than waving him off to a tropical island and saying 'welcome back in three or four months', whatever it might be," Faldo added. "The world is divided quite a bit but the bottom line is, but this is a serious issue."

Woods was arrested on a DUI charge, along with charges for careless driving and refusal to submit to a urine test, on March 27 when his Land Rover rolled over in Jupiter Island, Florida.

Five days later, the golfer announced he's "stepping away" to seek treatment. "I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," Woods said in the statement posted on X.

He continued, "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery. I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally," Woods continued. "I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

On April 1, a Florida judge granted Woods permission to travel outside of the United States for his treatment after the golfer's attorney cited "privacy" concerns.

Woods' treating physician recommended he seek treatment at a facility out of the country "based upon the Defendant's complex clinical presentation the urgent need for a level of care that cannot safely or effectively be done within the United States," per the court documents obtained and reviewed by PEOPLE.

Bodycam footage released by the Martin County Sheriff's Office showed Woods telling officers he was "talking to the president" after the crash occurred. Other footage shows Woods performing field sobriety tests and talking about wanting to compete in the Masters before his DUI arrest.
