A classified US intelligence document has revealed that Iran has "substantially increased" its operations targeting US personnel and is in the "advanced stages" of plotting attacks against American citizens across the Middle East and beyond.

The State Department is drawing down staff at four US embassies throughout the Middle East after receiving fresh intelligence showing Iran has ramped up its targeting of American officials both in the region and worldwide. In a memo sent Friday to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton noted that his teams "have received intelligence that Iran has substantially increased efforts to target US personnel.

"The lethal plotting efforts by the Iranians against US citizens have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries," Clayton wrote. It comes after a furious Trump demanded access to the nuclear codes, before a terrified man stopped him with one brutal word.

The obtained the memo, which was first reported by Axios. Three US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the intelligence, confirmed that Clayton delivered the memo to Rubio in his capacity as both secretary of state and national security adviser.

The disclosure emerged shortly after the State Department announced it would be scaling back personnel at the US embassies in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The three officials indicated that these staff reductions are a direct response to threats from Iran and Yemen's Iranian-supported Houthi militants.

All four embassies are currently operating under "restricted operations" status, which had already reduced their staffing levels. Despite the cutbacks, the embassies will remain operational.

However, unlike the circumstances in Saudi Arabia, where nonessential US personnel and their families were issued mandatory evacuation orders on Wednesday, staff members in the other four countries are not being compelled to depart.

When revealing the personnel reductions this week, the State Department explicitly pointed to increased threats from Yemen's Houthi rebels, without mentioning direct risks to US staff from Iran. Hostilities have escalated between a Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis, with the militant group launching missile and drone strikes against Saudi Arabia.

US officials have categorically dismissed any link between the drawdowns and possible new US and Israeli military operations against Iran. The unpopular war has pushed up energy costs for Americans and generated political difficulties for President Donald Trump and Republicans, who are attempting to preserve their Congressional majority in the November 3 midterm elections.

At a Florida rally on Friday, Trump emphasized US military operations in Iran, which were labeled "Operation Epic Fury," declaring that "we may do another little Epic Fury, or they'll agree. If they're smart, they'll just say, 'Let's get down to business.'" Negotiators have been attempting to revive official talks between Washington and Tehran as the standoff has reached an impasse. Based on reports from Iranian state media, the Revolutionary Guard navy delivered new warnings this week to strike US military bases across the region should America persist in supporting commercial shipping moving through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial bottleneck for global energy trade.

"Any further escalation around the Strait of Hormuz or elsewhere in the region will put civilian lives and the well-being of all regional states and the global economy at great risk," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote in an opinion column in the Financial Times this week.

It comes as a horror map revealed the states where 75% of Americans would die in the event of a nuclear attack.
