It's a big day for residents of Walnut Grove.
Netflix has finally unveiled the first look at its much-anticipated *Little House on the Prairie* reboot — and that's not all. The streamer has confirmed that the fresh telling of Laura Ingalls Wilder's story will span at least two seasons. Ahead of its debut, *Little House *has officially been renewed for a second season.
Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine (*The Boys*,* Vampire Diaries*) celebrated the news in a statement to Tudum, sharing, "I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive. We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the *Little House* books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story."
As for when fans will finally get to journey back to the American West, *Little House *is slated to debut this summer, on July 9.

The* Little House on the Prairie* reboot promises a story that's "part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West" as it explores the "struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier" by adapting Ingalls Wilder's semi-autobiographical books. The celebrated author released eight *Little House* books in the 1930s and '40s, while a ninth was published posthumously in 1971. More than 73 million copies of the books have been sold to date.

The new series comes after the original *Little House*, which ran on NBC from 1974 to 1983, experienced a resurgence during and post-pandemic, as viewers rediscovered the series on streaming. (NBC's *Little House on the Prairie* racked up 13.3 billion minutes of viewing time in 2024, per Nielsen.)

Speaking to ** last year, the original show's star, Melissa Gilbert, made it clear that she supports Netflix's new take on the classic books. "I think there's room in the *Little House* universe for all different kinds of stories to be told — just like there was always room in the *Little Women* universe to keep retelling that story," she said.
The reboot series stars Alice Halsey (*Lessons in Chemistry*) as the strong-willed hero at the center of the novels. Skywalker Hughes (*I, Object*) will play Laura’s older sister, Mary, while Luke Bracey (*Hacksaw Ridge*) stars as their father, Charles Ingalls, and Crosby Fitzgerald (*Crime 101*) plays their mother, Caroline Ingalls.
