Ella Langley says ‘it feels fake’ after shattering Mariah Carey’s record for longest-running No. 1 song in history

Country star Ella Langley reacted to making music history with her record-breaking song “Choosin’ Texas.”

The 27-year-old’s hit song recently overtook Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” to become the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

“It feels fake,” Langley said in a video reacting to the development.

Even Ella Langley can’t believe that her “Choosin’ Texas” song just shattered a titanic Billboard Hot 100 record previously held by industry legend Mariah Carey.

The 27-year-old country singer gleefully reacted to her Dandelion single becoming the longest-running No. 1 song in United States music history, as she shared an impassioned Instagram video celebrating the song bounding past Carey’s perennial holiday hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” earlier this week to log 23 weeks in the top spot on the American chart.

“I’m genuinely trying to find the words to help explain what’s going on in my brain today,” Langley said in the clip (below).

She expressed shock and confusion over the feat, after the rise of “Choosin’ Texas” over the last year saw the song leap past prior benchmarks on the all-time chart previously set by the likes of Carey, Boyz II Men, Justin Bieber, Lil Nas X, and more.

“Thank you for loving this song, for listening to it,” Langley told her followers in the video, which also included persistent barking from her pet dog. “I feel like I don’t even know what to say at this point. I’m running out of hyperboles to describe how I feel, so I’ll just let my dog in the background show you his excitement.”

Langley said the song is “changing my life” and is also “changing the lives fo the writers of this song, it’s changing the lives of my family. It’s truly growing an atmosphere for something I’m going to be able to do the rest of my life.”

She also said that “today, it doesn’t feel like a real thing. It feels fake” to have her success match the likes of the aforementioned artists.

“Somebody’s gonna come in and be like, ‘Haha, we’re kidding!’” Langley joked.

Langley finished the post by telling her fans that she’s “going to go out and celebrate tonight, and I’m really excited to just experience a moment like this in my life. I don’t know how else to say it. Thank you so much.”

Billboard confirmed Tuesday that Langley’s lead Dandelion album single broke Carey’s record, as the song continues to be a hit on radio and in terms of subscription-based streams and digital singles sales, with the tune spending 23 weeks at No. 1 on the publication’s streaming songs chart, and 18 weeks atop its digital song sales chart (a feat that currently ties it with BTS’ “Dynamite” (2021) and Butter (2020) as that ranking’s longest-running chart-toppers.)

Langley’s second album, Dandelion, also reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year, and cemented her status as one of the biggest breakout musical acts of the last year — all ahead of the star earning five total nominations at the the 2026 MTV VMAs.

In addition to “Choosin’ Texas,” the star notched two other top-five hits on the Hot 100 in 2026 alone. Dandelion’s second single, “Be Her,” hit No. 2 over the summer, while her Morgan Wallen-featuring duet “I Can’t Love You Anymore” reached No. 4 this year as well.

Langley’s new Koe Wetzel collaboration “Jaded” is also a current-charting hit on the Hot 100, with the song currently placed at No. 25 on this week’s overall Billboard ranking.
