President Donald Trump shared his latest pick for the vacant role of White House Press Secretary, and it's not who you would expect.

During the C-SPAN broadcast, President Trump, 80, spoke with the press outside the White House. The president held his press conference on the South Lawn, near the helipad. He discussed the role of press secretary, which has been left empty since Karoline Leavitt, 29, left the position at the end of August after her 2018 throwback photos sparked plastic surgery rumors.

Trump called out Fox News's senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy as a potential pick. A journalist asked, "What are you looking for in a press secretary?" President Trump initially said, "A lot of people want that job. I would say many of them are right here." The president then pointed his finger at an off-screen reporter, laughed, and said, "You'd like that job." Trump paused and mumbled, "Uhhhh," before finally mentioning the co-anchor of The Sunday Briefing for Fox News, "Maybe a guy like Peter." It comes just days after a lip reader spotted Ivanka Trump's 3-word order to JD Vance as they whispered at the White House.

Trump continued about Doocy, "But he's making too much. He's gone. I lost him as soon as he renegotiated his last contract."

Leavitt, who last held the White House position, left to spend more time with her family. Leavitt and her husband, Nicholas Riccio, 60, share two children: Niko and Viviana. She welcomed Viviana on May 1 and took maternity leave until July 16.

Before she released her statement, President Trump, 80, announced her departure on his Truth Social platform.

Trump wrote, "Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect!"

He added, "Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party."

Leavitt also shared her own statement, saying working as White House Press Secretary was "the honor and adventure of a lifetime."

She shared on X, "Being a mother and welcoming a new baby while working in one of the most demanding jobs in the world has been the most rewarding yet challenging season of my life, to say the least.

"The truth is, since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary."

"And that is why I have ultimately made the bittersweet decision to depart the White House and embark on a new chapter in my life," Leavitt concluded.

Despite names being suggested, such as Doocy, conservative commentator Scott Jennings, and deputy press secretary Anna Kelly, the White House has yet to settle on Leavitt’s successor.

When she was 27, Leavitt became the youngest person ever to hold the position and remained a prominent defender of President Trump throughout her tenure.

Before her resignation,Leavitt revealed she was suffering PTSD due to "difficult decisions" with her much-older husband.
