Christina Applegate's representative is responding to reports that the 54-year-old actress is hospitalized in Los Angeles and has been receiving medical treatment since late March. The Emmy winner was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease, in 2021.
“I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are,” Applegate’s rep tells Entertainment Weekly, responding to a TMZ report. “She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”
Applegate has been candid about her ongoing battle with MS the past five years, particularly on her podcast MeSsy co-hosted by Sopranos actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who publicized her own MS diagnosis in 2016. The two have discussed everything from wearing adult diapers to unsolicited medical advice from strangers.
“Jamie and I have different — everybody has different ways of it showing up,” Applegate said in a November 2024 episode. “I lay in bed screaming. Like, the sharp pains, the ache, that squeezing.”
The pain is so excruciating, she added, "I can't even pick up my phone sometimes, because now it's traveled into my hands. So I'll try to go get my phone, or get my remote to turn on the TV [and] sometimes, I can't even hold them. I can't open bottles now."
Last March, Applegate revealed on MeSsy that since 2021 she had been hospitalized “upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain… They've done every test known to man on me, put so much radiation into my body from CT scans to everything else."
Five months later, the actress spent another week in the hospital with a kidney infection. She had just returned from a family trip to Europe, where she was "not feeling good" and struggling with stomach pain the entire time.

While in the hospital, she continued to record her podcast.
"We just happen to have this scheduled, and they won't let me leave yet because things are, things are messy,” she told listeners, "but I'm going to be okay… at 1 o'clock, I get medicines to feel better. So that's how I'm doing right now."

Applegate shared one of her most heartbreaking revelations in an interview with NPR released March 20: Not only does she think about death "every day," she has already purchased her burial plot "that way, nobody has to deal with it."
Although she could talk openly about passing on, Applegate was overwhelmed discussing how her loss will affect Sadie, her 15-year-old daughter with husband Martyn LeNoble.
“I’m very not comfortable because I’m going to hurt my kid,” she told NPR's Rachel Martin.

"So I get really scared about that. I think it's — now I'm, like, really afraid of it because of her. I can't — I don't know," she said, as she began to cry. "I can't even talk about, like, I don't know what her life's going to be like, and you don't know when it's going to be — could be, like, anytime."
