FRAMINGHAM — Following its late April opening, a new Thai restaurant on Route 9 has quickly gained popularity in the city.

A South East Kitchen, owned and operated by Asek Sritrai, has opened at 855 Worcester Road (Route 9) in the Trolley Square Plaza. Sritrai told the Daily News that he has been encouraged by the positive response from customers and hopes to continue growing into the space.

"We're getting good feedback that people like us," he said. "We're obviously small, and we're a little hidden in Trolley Square, we're not as busy as Route 9 is. It's just me and my family, so we're not hoping to be so busy, so we're hoping to grow within the space since it's a big space."

Sritrai, who lives Holden and, previously, Marlborough, said he plans to rotate certain menu items but will primarily focus on Thai cuisine. Current offerings include Red Curry, Shrimp Pad Thai and fried rice. The restaurant also has shareable items such as crab rangoon, golden shrimp an chicken satay.

Sritrai's parents owned a restaurant for more than 25 years, and he previously took over a pre-existing restaurant in California. He said that helped prepare him to open his own place.

"This is more that we want to create something we think people would enjoy and experience," Sritrai said.

A South East Kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
