King Charles is moving ahead with his U.S. visit as planned, despite the recent WHCD shooting incident. The shooting took place at the Washington Hilton on April 25. Reports say authorities have addressed initial security concerns with Buckingham Palace confirming the upcoming trip.

King Charles to visit US after WHCD shooting

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit will proceed as planned despite the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting scare on Sunday. In a statement, the Palace announced the decision followed “discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of Government” (via CNN).

The palace further said, “The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case and are looking forward to the visit getting underway tomorrow.”

Reports suggest the sovereign privately reached out to Donald Trump following the ordeal. The Palace also stated King Charles was “greatly relieved” to hear that the President, Melania Trump, and all other guests are safe.

A gunman fired shots near the Washington Hilton’s main security screening area, where the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner took place on Saturday night. The incident prompted security concerns over the royals’ upcoming visit. At the time, the palace discussed “to what degree the events of Saturday evening may or may not impact on the operational planning for the visit.”

Most recently, reports have suggested that authorities have made some minor adjustments to the schedule. However, the four-day visit starting on Monday will go ahead as scheduled.

Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche has further assured that he is “confident” that the sovereign will remain safe during his U.S. visit. Moreover, the president himself assured that the King will “be very safe.” He added in an interview on CBS News that “The White House grounds are really safe.”
