At the event, she spoke with PEOPLE about the emotional reaction she had to wearing the iconic red Baywatch swimsuit for the first time

The 29-year-old model has been cast as lifeguard Selene in the upcoming reboot of the iconic TV series, which is set to premiere as part of Fox's 2026-2027 season

Brooks Nader says she was overcome with emotion when she slipped into the iconic red Baywatch swimsuit for the first time.

While chatting with PEOPLE exclusively at Clarins' Night of Extra in Los Angeles on March 20, the 29-year-old model — who has been cast in Fox's upcoming Baywatch sequel series — revealed that she was "bawling crying" when she donned the one-piece.

"It's such a full-circle moment," she said, explaining, "I wore a red one-piece on my Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover coincidentally years ago. So I feel like it's been a long time in the making."

Nader told PEOPLE that her family was just as emotional about it.

"My sisters, I was FaceTiming them, and they were bawling crying when they saw me in the red suit," she recalled. "It's such a big moment, and I'm so honored to be a part of it."

The Baywatch reboot — which is set to premiere as part of Fox's 2026-2027 season — will see "wild child" Hobie Buchannon (Stephen Amell) working as a Baywatch captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch Buchannon (played by David Hasselhoff in the original series).

"Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie [Jessica Belkin], the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad," a logline reads.

“While [Selene] is excellent at her job, she and Baywatch Captain Hobie Buchannon have a very different approach to saving lives that is a constant source of friction," per an official character description.

“Never on good terms, their relationship only goes downhill after Hobie brings his daughter Charlie onto his team… and it becomes clear that their rivalry goes much deeper than lifeguarding,” the description continued.

The cast also includes David Chokachi (who will reprise his role as Cody Madison from the original series, which aired from 1989 to 2001), Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Shay Mitchell as Trina, Noah Beck as Luke and Livvy Dunne as Grace.

Production has started on the series, and the stars could be seen wearing their bright red suits as they were photographed filming on a beach in California on March 18.

During her conversation with PEOPLE at the Clarins event, Nader acknowledged that she and the reboot's cast have some big shoes to fill.

"Everyone in the original series is so iconic. They obviously shaped this series and made it what it is today," she explained, referring to stars including Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra and David Charvet. "I'm so honored to try and fill those shoes. We're all working really hard, the cast and I. It's such an amazing class of people. Everyone has been so dedicated to doing that proud."

As for the fans, Nader predicts that "everyone's going to love this series so much."

"It's something that America really needs right now," she told PEOPLE. "It's a feel-good show, and everyone's just been working so hard. The few days that we've been on set — we just started this week — have been so magical. You can just feel the energy of the room and the beach. Everyone is going to love it. I really do."
