Anne Hathaway Credits Rihanna with Inspiring Her Maternity Style: ‘She Changed the Game!’

Anne Hathaway is shining bright like a diamond.

The Verity actress, 43, spoke on CBS Mornings about embracing maternity style on red carpets and events as she’s expecting her third baby with husband Adam Shulman, and revealed that Rihanna has been her style inspiration in this phase of her life.

The topic arose after host Gayle King praised Hathaway for embracing her pregnancy and looking “so glamorous” on red carpets, specifically citing her striking silk crop top and jeans at the world premiere of her new filmThe End of Oak Streetin Los Angeleson Sunday, Aug. 9.

“I was so excited for that outfit! I was really, really, really excited to wear it. That’s a Prabal Gurung,” Hathaway shared of the design during her appearance on the morning show, which aired on Friday, Oct. 2.

Then, Hathaway gave a shoutout to the nine-time Grammy winner, who shares three kids — RZA, Riot and Rocki — with her longtime partner, A$AP Rocky.

“I think that we have Rihanna to thank,” the actress said. “She changed the game! And when I saw her, what she was doing with her maternity style, I just realized that I just needed to use my imagination and go out there and have more fun.”

Rihanna previously opened up to Vogue about her fashion-forward maternity looks. “I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing,” she said in April 2022.

Lastly, Hathaway was sure to credit her longtime stylist.

Hathaway — who is already mom to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6 — first announced that she was pregnant in June and went on to show off her baby bump in a series of fashionable looks while promoting The Odysseyand The End of Oak Street.

She later revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in August that she and Shulman, 45, know the sex of their third baby but are “not saying.”

Hathaway has been bringing the maternity style to various red carpets in recent months given her booked and busy schedule (Verity marks her fifth film of 2026).

“I’m excited. This is very, very fun. It’s extremely surreal,” she told PEOPLE in July of how she is feeling at this time in her life.

The actress took her maternity style to the next level while attending the New York world premiere for the psychological thriller on Tuesday, Sept. 29. (See the stunning look, above.)

Styled by Walsh, she wore a black lace mermaid-cut gown with a sheer glittery cape detail, sourced from Prabal Gurung’s atelier collection. She accessorized with a diamond bracelet and teardrop-shaped earrings while attending the event held at AMC Lincoln Square 13.
