Aly Michalka and Spencer Sutherland are heading to Broadway!

The Aly & AJ singer and the singer-songwriter will both make their Broadway debuts in & Juliet this fall, producers have announced.

Sutherland will step into the role of Romeo beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, while Michalka will take over as Anne Hathaway beginning Tuesday, Nov. 3. Both will appear for limited engagements.

ā€œI’m beyond thrilled to be joining the company of & Juliet as Anne Hathaway,ā€ Michalka, 37, said in a statement. ā€œI’ve spent so much of my life performing and telling stories through music, film, and television, and the opportunity to bring that experience to a Broadway stage while challenging myself in a new way is incredibly exciting.ā€

ā€œI’m so grateful to be welcomed into this extraordinary company,ā€ she added, ā€œand I hope you’ll come see us on Broadway this winter!ā€

Sutherland, 33, similarly called the milestone a dream come true.

ā€œStepping onto the biggest stage as Romeo is more than a dream come true, it’s a moment that I will carry with me for the rest of my life,ā€ he said. ā€œA Broadway debut only happens once, and this is very much a ā€˜pinch me’ moment.ā€

Michalka first rose to fame as Keely Teslow opposite Raviv Ullman on the Disney Channel sitcom Phil of the Future, which ran from 2004 to 2006. She later appeared in films including Easy A and Bandslam and starred on TV shows including Hellcats and iZombie.

She is also one half of the musical duo Aly & AJ alongside her younger sister, AJ Michalka. The sisters have released six studio albums and toured extensively across North America and Europe, most recently releasing and touring behind their album Silver Deliverer.

Sutherland, meanwhile, has built a following of more than 2.4 million across social media and amassed hundreds of millions of streams with music influenced by artists including Elvis Presley, Queen, David Bowie, Prince and Elton John. His 2024 album, The Drama, helped propel a series of sold-out world tours.

He has also collaborated with artists including A$AP Rocky and Meghan Trainor and appeared onscreen in Netflix’s Afterlife of the Party and Prime Video’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.

& Juliet reimagines Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet by exploring what might happen if Juliet chose life after Romeo instead of tragedy.

Penned by Emmy winner David West Read (Schitt’s Creek), the musical is set to a score packed with pop hits from songwriter and producer Max Martin, including ā€œSince U Been Gone,ā€ ā€œRoar,ā€ ā€œI Want It That Wayā€ and ā€œConfident.ā€

The production, directed by Luke Sheppard with choreography by Jennifer Weber, earned nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, following its 2022 Broadway debut.

In addition to Broadway, the show has played in nine countries across four continents since making its West End debut in 2019. Its first North American tour launched in fall 2024, while an additional production opened in Toronto in December 2025.

Michalka and Sutherland are the latest in a wave of new faces joining the musical this fall.

As previously announced, Dance Moms alum Kenzie Ziegler will make her Broadway debut as Charmion on Sept. 15, the same day singer-songwriter and social media star Anthony Gargiula makes his Broadway debut as FranƧois.

Jeannette Bayardelle will also return to the production as AngĆ©lique from Sept. 15 through Oct. 4, following Chrissy Metz’s final performance in the role on Sept. 13. Original Broadway company member Megan Kane will return from Sept. 7 through Jan. 3, 2027, while Elsa Keefe takes a leave of absence.

The production will also host a special one-night-only Fan Night on Thursday, Sept. 24, in partnership with Z-100. The performance will include fan-focused moments and surprises, with additional details to be announced.

Tickets to & Juliet are now on sale.
