Brandon Diaz isn’t going home yet.
On Monday, Oct. 19, the Battles continued on The Voice and Team Queen contestant Diaz went up against Bryan Jaymes. For their performance, the pair sang Stevie Wonder‘s “As.”
“Fellas, that was awesome,” coach Riley Green said. “It was like a heavyweight boxing match up there.”
Coach Kelly Clarkson complimented their “sexy” voices and told Latifah she couldn’t go wrong by choosing either.
Meanwhile, Adam Levine said he felt like Diaz won the battle — but was also curious about what Jaymes had left to offer.
“I think I would stick with Bryan because I chose you from the beginning,” the Maroon 5 frontman concluded.
Before making her final decision, Latifah, 56, gave her contestants a standing ovation.
“That was fire. That is not an easy song to sing. I was like, ‘I gotta give them something that they can really chew on,’” Latifah said. “What you just did to that song is unbelievable.”

“There’s no way either one of you should go home tonight,” she said. “The winner of this battle is going to be Bryan.”

In a confessional, Latifah said that she chose Jaymes because she felt like he had “leveled up just a hair more.”
“He’s very comfortable in his own voice. He’s a natural at conveying the feeling, the emotion, the vibe of what he’s saying and doing,” she said.
Then, host Carson Daly announced that Diaz was available to steal. As he began to thank Latifah for coaching him, the “Sunday Morning” singer, 47, interrupted him by hitting his steal button.
“Brandon absolutely crushed that Stevie Wonder song. Brandon has some energy, some fire. I think he could be one of my top dogs. Really excited about that pickup, that was a big one,” he said.
“Adam is gonna look real smart for having Brandon on his team,” Latifah added. “You need that on your team. If you want to compete with mine. And that’s just me talking a little smack.”
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. All episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
