AC/DC guitarist Stevie Young was hospitalized in Argentina after feeling unwell ahead of the band’s sold-out shows

A spokesperson says Young is "doing well and in good spirits"

AC/DC rocker Stevie Young has been hospitalized in Argentina amid the legendary band’s Power Up world tour.

The rhythm guitarist, 69, was “not feeling well” upon arrival in Buenos Aires, and headed to the hospital to be safe, a spokesperson for Young told PEOPLE in a statement.

“Out of an abundance of caution, he was admitted to a local hospital where he is undergoing a full battery of tests,” the spokesperson said.

AC/DC is scheduled to play three sold-out shows at Monumental Stadium on March 23, 27 and 31.

“Stevie is doing well and is in good spirits. He is looking forward to getting on stage on Monday,” the statement read.

AC/DC hit the road in 2024 in support of their 2020 album Power Up, which marked the first record since founding member Malcolm Young’s death in 2017. The band kicked off a Latin American leg of the tour on Feb. 24, and are set to play North America through September.

Stevie Young joined AC/DC in 2014 after his uncle Malcolm retired due to a dementia diagnosis. He died of the disease three years later at age 64.

Young had previously played with the band in years’ past, including on their 1988 tour.

“I just liked to play that rhythm and hold it down for the other guys,” he told Vintage Guitar in 2021. “I got that from Malcolm. I could see the input and drive that he gave to AC/DC and I thought, ‘That’s a great thing!’”

His father Stephen was the older brother of Malcolm and Angus Young, who formed AC/DC in Sydney, Australia in 1973.

“Stevie grew up playing like Mal,” Angus, 70, praised his nephew in 2020. “That was how he really got into getting his guitar together…. Malcolm had his own thing going - very distinct. It’s just a unique way of playing. And Stevie, that’s what his bible was.”

Young’s first record with AC/DC was Rock or Bust in 2014.
